{"id":41416,"date":"2020-05-20T23:45:44","date_gmt":"2020-05-21T04:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sandbox-newtech.tech-access.ca\/?post_type=news&#038;p=41416"},"modified":"2026-04-13T09:07:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T09:07:19","slug":"tech-access-canada-congratulates-13-newly-awarded-technology-access-centres","status":"publish","type":"news-lists","link":"https:\/\/www.tech-access.ca\/?news-lists=tech-access-canada-congratulates-13-newly-awarded-technology-access-centres","title":{"rendered":"Tech-Access Canada Congratulates 13 Newly Awarded Technology Access Centres"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"xn-location\">OTTAWA<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"xn-chron\">May 20, 2020<\/span>\u00a0\/CNW\/ &#8211;\u00a0Congratulations to the 13 new and four renewed Technology Access Centres (TACs) awarded as part of the College and Community Innovation Program, announced by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC).<\/p>\n<p>The 13 new TACs were awarded to colleges and c\u00e9geps across the country from\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Castlegar, BC<\/span>\u00a0to Gasp\u00e9, QC bringing the total number of\u00a0<span class=\"xn-location\">Canada&#8217;s<\/span>\u00a0Technology Access Centres to 60.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations as well to the four TACs that were successfully renewed with another five-year mandate, validating the Technology Access Centre model, and joining the previous 21 TACs that have also received a second five-year mandate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The 13 new TACs announced today strengthen the already impressive capability and capacity of the Tech-Access Canada network,&#8221; said\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">David Berthiaume<\/span>, Executive Director of OLEOTEK and Chair of Tech-Access Canada&#8217;s Board of Directors. &#8220;We look forward to sharing best practices and assisting them to hit the ground running to rapidly solve the innovation challenges of industry partners in their regions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"xn-location\">Canada&#8217;s<\/span>\u00a060 Technology Access Centres (TACs) are specialized applied research &amp; development centres affiliated with publicly-funded colleges and c\u00e9geps. Each TAC serves a specific geographic area, with a focus on strengthening the industrial sector of significance to that region. These demand-driven centres, from BC to PEI, help Canadian businesses\u2014especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)\u2014get their products, processes and services market-ready by:<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>offering objective advice and specialized technical services;<\/li>\n<li>providing training related to new types of equipment and processes; and<\/li>\n<li>conducting applied research and development projects focused on company problems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;As evidenced recently with their rapid response to COVID-19, the TACs were able to come together and help firms pivot and produce innovative new forms of personal protective equipment, hand sanitizer, tracking monitors, and other products; while still servicing the ongoing R&amp;D needs of firms in essential industries,&#8221; said\u00a0<span class=\"xn-person\">Ken Doyle<\/span>, Tech-Access Canada&#8217;s Executive Director.<\/p>\n<p>Tech-Access Canada would also like to congratulate all of the other recipients of both the Tri-Council administered Colleges and Community Innovation Program initiatives and the Canada Foundation for Innovation&#8217;s College-Industry Innovation Fund.
